Hi, Obsessive Consumption is me, Kate Bingaman-Burt.
I make work about personal consumerism.
This is the page that leads you to other pages. Please click the color links and enjoy.
Follow my daily purchase drawings, read about show updates and see works in progress over at my blog: What Did You Buy Today? The blog is really the best place to check for the most up to date Kate news and information. I sometimes forget to update here. I also put a ton of work on Flickr.
Oh, and if you want to buy some zines, prints or any drawings, check out my shop!
I have some events/shows going on/coming up and/or just recently happened. This year I yammered at the How Design Conference where I talked about craftivism. I also yammered at the AIGA Make|Think National Conference to a bunch of terrific students. My last solo show was at Reading Frenzy Check out some pictures right here! I also have a handy link to current and past shows if you are interested: Obsessive Consumption Shows!
Recently, I have been drawing a bunch for IDEO, Nature's Path, Fred Flare, Madewell and Handmade Nation. The Handmade Nation DVD just came out! Buy It Now!
20x200 released a new edition with me. Jen (who runs 20x200) also represents me over at Jen Bekman . Recently, I was also part of a group edition published by The Cloudy Collection.
If you want me to make some drawings for your fine establishment, product or publication, just let me know. Check out more of my client work.
No pressure, but you may read what other people have to say about my work: ReadyMade, New York Times, Print Magazine, My Love For You Is A Stampede of Horses blog, and The Oregonian have said some nice things, just to name a few. If pictures are more your jam, come see me act a fool in a video filmed for The Museum of Contemporary Craft. If listening is more your speed, you may hear me say “you know, and like” numerous times on Weekend America .
Obsessive Consumption is going to be a book. really. It should be hitting the shelves March 2010 and it will be published by Princeton Architectural Press. You may pre-order a copy HERE!
For the past four years I was an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Mississippi State University. Now I am in my second year as an Assistant Professor at Portland State University. Check out the PSU Graphic Design Blog Command Save! HOW Magazine just recently called both MSU and PSU HOTT design schools. yeowza!
My husband and I had a non-profit called The Public Design Center when we lived in Mississippi. The PDC (as I like to call it), was a graphic design resource center and pretty much awesome. It doesn't exist anymore since we moved to Portland, but we are hatching new plans even as I type these words.
If you want, you may add me on Flickr, Facebook, del.icio.us, Twitter and Last.fm.
Drop me a line if you just want to say hi or if you would like for me to come and talk at your location of choice or if you would like me to provide illustrations or Obsessive Consumption services for you. I would love to! Thanks for reading.
